Short Walks

Wetland, wildlife, lagoons, sand dunes, forest, river habitats, fur-seal colonies, lighthouses, Admirals Arch, Australian vegetation and spectacular views are amongst the list of attractions to visit on your short walks from KIWR. Long Walks

KIWR is home to the greatest coastal walk in Australia – the Kangaroo Island Coastal Wilderness Walk. A picturesque journey along the western coastline of the Island, the secluded beaches, bushland, cliff-top views and myriad of wildlife sightings will stay etched in your mind forever.  The Cape Gantheanme Coastal Walk is an overnight trek, equally matched in natural beauty; sand dunes, crystal clear azure waters and a Sea-lion colony.


Kangroo Island Wilderness Walks

Distance: 12-18km per day 

Time: 4 separate day walks, chose one or more!

Difficulty: Challenging
Kangaroo Island Coastal Wilderness Walk is a 4 separate day journey across coastal cliffs, secluded beaches  and breathtaking scenery.  Just undertaking one or two sections will be exciting enough for some.

There is an abundance of wildlife viewing opportunities and spectacular landmarks to experience on each day of walking. Starting at various points each day for your trek in the wild. Early bookings are essential to allow planning time for permits, arrange guides and appropriate transport. KIWR is the only accommodation adjoining or near Flinders Chase National Park, the major wilderness attraction on Kangaroo Island!

Cape Gantheanme Coastal Walk

Distance: 38 km

Time: 2 Full days

Difficultly: Challenging 
 Commencing at D’Estrees Bay and finishing at Bales bay, the scenary is spectacular and wildlife viewing opportunities are plentiful; Fur-seals, birdlife, Goannas, Ospreys. Coastal cliffs and dunes guide walkers to crystal blue waters and perfect remote sandy bays.   Visit the largest New Zealand Fur-Seal breeding colony on Kangaroo Island located at the tip of Cape Gantheaume, and enjoy the varied of beach and bush in this truely untamed wilderness walk.  Click here to take the virtual tour!
